Making faux flowers look realistic is an art. It takes skill. Not only do you have to use the right flowers you have to know how to create with them. It is not just a case of getting some artificial flowers & putting them together. There is a process and a theory.⁠

You see, in nature flowers come in various sizes and they vary for bud to full bloom & beyond. They all have their characteristics & when creating with fresh flowers we can use these differences in our designs to our advantage.⁠
⁠
Faux flowers are a different ball game and it requires expertise to create a bouquet or display that looks realistic.⁠
⁠
So when I plan my work I do so like a fresh flower florist. I create a recipe, a colour palette & have an idea of the shape, form and lines my design will have.⁠

But I add an extra layer of detail.⁠
⁠
I think about the size of the flower heads & the stages of growth & how they develop. By taking these considerations in account I apply it to my creations to elevate my designs.⁠

Not all faux flowers are the same but it is not just the faux flowers that are used that make the design special.⁠

It is the skill & expertise of the person creating with them that will make it extra special.⁠

Some florists may recommend buttonholes which are secured with magnets. Here is why we don’t:

1. IMPORTANT- Anyone who has a pacemaker or an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) should NOT wear a magnetic buttonhole. We always check as the magnetic field can interfere with both devices and be dangerous.

Just for added peace of mind we prefer to avoid magnetic buttonholes at any wedding or event is anyone present has either a pacemaker or an ICD. Extra cautious? Probably, but we prefer to avoid the risk.

2. Every jacket has a different thickness, although the buttonhole should be secure we cannot guarantee how secure it will be.

Not all artificial flowers are the same. Faux flowers often get tarred with being called tacky & cheap looking, if you feel like that I don’t blame you. The chances are that you have been subjected to just that. Low grade artificial flowers.😳

Like most things in life there is good and bad in all. I bring my clients the best.

So what should you be looking for? ✨

🌿 Detail - the little things. Are the petal shapes realistic, is there veining on the leaves. Overly frayed leaves should be avoided as should cheap polyester.
.
🌿Does the flower hold up well? Is is well structured? Does it have that bounce back? For example if it’s squished does it retain its shape? This is really helpful especially for buttonholes. After lots of congratulatory hugs the flowers will bounce back without losing and shape or petals.
.
🌿Definition? Some flowers in nature have a natural block colour to and others are tonal. Is this reflected in the flower? As seen with the beautiful peonies, there is really attention to making the flowers look as real as possible with gradients of colour.

This is just a few of the things to look out for and I hope it helps to show the difference. ✨

17 days of making memories, resetting, visiting fa

17 days of making memories, resetting, visiting family & friends, paying our respects & contemplating our plans for the next chapter.

Today I’ve been running around collect Atlas & Cosmo from the cattery, collecting various pets & recouping after the chaos at Heathrow Airport last night.

Although my heritage doesn’t lie in this island my husbands & kids do. Over the years it has been imprinted on my heart and I have a deep connection & love with the place. We are always met with kindness and every time we explore we find something new.

Famagusta is beautiful, somewhere my husband spent many summers during his childhood. His family have ties to the old city that lies within castle walls, literally. With various entrances, one where you drive across the moat that has long dried up. It’s sounds almost unreal but it really does exist.

Every time we go we visit Othello Tower, the namesake of Shakespeares play, reminiscing on the previous visits when the kids were younger, recreating photos, seeing how much they have grown.

This year we discovered a new ancient hammam, just before we left to catch our flight home. It was a delight.

We walked along the crystal clear shorelines, enjoyed the beaches alongside visiting various archaeological places, watching sky acrobatics of the Turkish Stars as they manoeuvred their jets within metres of each other.

I am very grateful to have been able to take this trip. But its location and what’s going on around us didn’t leave my mind. Just across the water the unthinking and most heinous acts have been taking place for 300 days now. May their souls rest in peace, may our eyes not be closed to the wickedness, the suffering 🍉

I am now recharged & raring to go, full steam ahead for our weddings and events over the next 4 months 💜💪🏼

These are the 3 top things I always think about

🌿 Stability

We ensure the arrangement, wherever it is moved is stable. Especially important with big displays like this. Good spread of load, solid surface to stand on is paramount

🌿 Sturdy floristry, not a technical term but what I mean is the flowers are designed to stay in place. This arrangement has been created with no floral foam which is much better for the environment. I use sustainable methods, this has a wire armature inside to ensure that no matter how many times it’s moved the flowers stay in the right place 💪🏼

🌿 Weight

I use the right amount of ballast. Enough that the arrangement can’t be easily knocked over and light enough to make moving it a breeze. No water sloshing around 😂 no need to panic about spilling anything and leaving a mess.

A pair of these arrangements were used in the ceremony room at @andazlondon for the wonderful @dimitriajordan . The florals were moved for the wedding breakfast to stand either side of the cake table and then later moved again to the ballroom.

We maximise where appropriate using the best quality faux florals designed with nature in mind to bring our clients something special.

Giving back to the community is something I’ve d

Giving back to the community is something I’ve done for many years. The last 14 years of my voluntary work has been in the education sector. I have sat on many boards across Thurrock and Southend, in a number of roles spanning both Primary & Secondary education.

It really does bring me immense satisfaction and joy to be able to impact and support thousands of children and hundreds of staff over the years. I’ve worked shoulder to shoulder with wonderful fellow Governors & now Trustees who have been such a core part of what we do.

It is no secret that schools are being asked to do more and more with budgets that do not match the requirements. Children need far more support than just what the curriculum holds but to nurture and support them and their families in different aspects and challenges of life.

So last night it really was a great privilege to have been invited to the end of year Confederation of School Trusts event at the House of Lords. To meet and chat with various people from all over the UK who work in education. What was apparent was that no matter where they had travelled from their concerns of how the next chapter of education may look like was virtually the same.

But as always, we will navigate what lies ahead, centring our school communities at the heart of what we do.

🌿More doesn’t mean better. You chose your venue because you love it. Lean into that. Lots of little bits and pieces are not your friend. It can often look cluttered and cheapen the look of the room.

🌿 Consider balance. Complimentary features are key. Our chandelier installation allows the structure of the light fitting to be seen, it’s a feature of the room. The aim is not to swamp them but enhance their beauty.

🌿 Proportions are often forgotten. How big or small is the space? Don’t forget height too. Here we have ensured that the eucalyptus hangs at the right length. Not too long that it’s imposing as you walk through and long enough for impact. Thoughtful design is key.

🌿 Colour harmony can make such a difference to your space. This avoids the room looking disjointed. When you and your guests look around a room the space should flow.

Huge congratulations to Izzy and Emma who married @aptonhall yesterday. The couple wanted a natural look with greenery to enhance the space, which works so well with the natural wood and surroundings. We created greenery bunches for the aisle chairs to highlight the walkway to them exchanging their vows.

We also echoed the greenery on the chandeliers in the wedding breakfast room to follow the theme and connect the spaces.

To Mrs & Mrs Turner, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together!🥂
